The audit agrees with the scorer on every line again. One counting bug leads anyway, because the rule is that bugs go first: `USAGE.md` had booked every scheduled run since 8 Oct to you. A scheduled firing now arrives tagged as a "task-notification", and a filter I added on 9 Oct to stop child hand-backs opening new rows threw the firing away with them. Fixed today in `bin/usage.py`. Rebuilt, this week's scheduled output is 543k tokens across 10 runs, not 228k across 3. That is under double the four-week average (322k), so no alarm.
This week I took the probe register from 49 verdicts to 104, built a systems book of two ETF dip rules that survived a luck test, measured the pre-listing pop with you and left a tracker running, and built three things you asked for: the Tenet timeline, a Nolan fan site and the Sixteen Nights film. The graduation book G2 read KEEP on Thursday, then lost it on Sunday morning when the fill check I had pre-registered came in. The meme-coin desk is still losing. The football model has 85 predictions committed and none scored yet, because no results have been published since the break. The Big Expedition (rug-check CLI) closed with no CLI.
Kill switch
Not pulled this week. No halt set, no remote halt seen, no failed check. The local file is absent.
Ran it
**G2, the pump.fun graduation book: KEEP, then withdrawn** (P-0100, D-009). On 8 Oct it passed its pre-registered line: 403 counted, +£45.03 per £100, best ten removed +£0.13. That last margin was 13p, so I pre-registered a fill check before anyone ran it. It re-priced 399 of the same trades on 1-minute candle closes instead of Jupiter's quotes: -£3.98 per £100, and -£6.00 with the best ten removed. The edge was a pricing artefact in a handful of big winners. I also first logged the check as "blocked on time"; it finished an hour later, and the report says so.
**A systems book that passed a luck test** (P-0082 to P-0091, 7 Oct). Quantified Strategies' published ETF rules replicate when the rules are given: RSI(5) 93 trades against their 90, Williams %R 289 against 288. Then the permutation test:
- RSI(5) dip-buying on nine index ETFs beats random entry timing in 8 of 9 markets (p under 0.003). Japan fails. Backtest 2009 to 2026: +0.64% a trade, 75% winners. Now systems book 1, KILL under zero at 30 trades.
- IBS below 0.2, taken only while book 1 is flat: +0.27% a trade before costs, p 0.044. Mostly a US effect. Systems book 2, KILL at 200 if negative.
- Not taken: trend following (luck test p 0.15), GEM and the 39-week plan (replicate, don't beat 60/40 on risk), a weak-Monday rule (real, +0.45% a trade, but overlaps book 1 less than I called).
- Neither book has closed a trade yet.
**Pre-listing pop, with you on 9 Oct.** Holding a coin at an Upbit listing announcement and selling at the low of the +3 minute bar made a median +15.8% after costs on 58 listings. Buying after the news loses (P-0107: -11% at 24 h on Upbit). The backtest list beat 99% of random lists but lost to just holding the universe. Rules are committed (047e257), and a launchd tracker publishes a list every day until 17 Oct, when D-011 scores it. $9.95 of your $10 xAI approval spent.
**Markitdown: pip quietly gives you the 2024 stub** (5 and 7 Oct). On Python 3.14 on this Intel Mac, `pip install markitdown[all]` gives 0.0.2, not 0.1.8, with exit code 0, because onnxruntime has no Intel 3.14 wheel. On a Python 3.12 I put inside the folder, 0.1.8 installs. On Office files the output is byte-identical. On PDF, 0.1.8 adds tables but glues the words together in two thirds of the prose. Pin it and read the version back.
From the harvester, each one run the night it was queued:
- **works:** x402 pay-per-call (21 of 25 endpoints return a readable 402 challenge, no wallet); data.police.uk (keyless street crime, Leicester Square 4,210 in a month); BTC around CPI, FOMC and payrolls (hour range 1.7x to 2.9x normal); ffmpeg scene frames plus subtitles (136 frames from 12 min); mortiflix, the gated video studio, ran end to end in the sandbox; the animate and anatomy skills both rebuild byte-identical; agent.reviews (readable keyless, but a few heavy reviewers); a sniper bot's mint and freeze filter (removes 0 of 40 pump.fun mints).
- **not worth it:** two Instagram trading setups coded and run on two years of BTC (both lose after costs: -0.44R and -0.67R a trade); insider cluster buys (rerun with your EDGAR contact: -0.2% against SPY at 30 days).
- **broken:** by2kb, the video-to-notes tool (YouTube 403, then a PyAV version clash).
- **blocked:** a local-model classifier test (no Ollama on this Mac; two of my briefs wrongly said there was, now corrected); a Rust benchmark (no Rust; its 98.9% headline hides 36% recall); a Swift screen-arrow tool (would draw on the live screen unattended); agent-workbench (writes to ~/Library).
Sunday cull: nothing killed by rule. 18 probes open; none at three attempts or 28 days.
Score
The Grinder, rules v0.2, £100 paper stakes:
| Measure | Value |
| Bankroll | £787.47 (from £1,000) |
| Opened / closed | 64 / 60 |
| Hit rate | 0.35 |
| Expectancy per position | £-3.54 (-3.5% of stake) |
| Rugged | 2 |
Last week: £905.84 and -£2.94 a position. Down £118 this week, mostly from stop-outs at about -53%. The v0.1 book is unchanged at £93.54. Graduation book G1 stays KILL (8,284 counted, -£23.00).
The Pitch:
| Measure | Value |
| Predictions committed before kickoff | 85 |
| Scored | 0 |
| Brier, model v market | n/a |
| Paper bankroll | £100.00 |
The results feed has published nothing since 20 Sep, so the first scores land when it updates. The other books:
| Book | Counted | Me minus market (Brier) | Kill at | Floor |
| Judgement, anchored | 49 | +0.0055 | +0.010 | 60 |
| Judgement, blind | 33 | +0.0085 | +0.020 | 60 |
| Exchange (Smarkets) | 2 settled | +0.160 | +0.020 | 60 |
Blind was 0.010 ahead of the market last week, and it is now 0.0085 behind. On 33 rows that is still noise. All of my exchange calls sit below the market's favourite, and the first two settled against me.
Probes: 104 verdicts (74 works, 4 broken, 18 blocked, 8 not worth it), 4 killed, 18 open. Spend on the Proteus card: £0.00. On your accounts: xAI $13.07 this week ($9.95 pre-listing research, $3.12 nightly; 4 Oct's $0.72 also added late), Gemini and ElevenLabs about $2.26 for the film. All of it is itemised in SPEND.md.
Watched and read
- Five videos on whether betting markets are right. The only real number is Becker's 72 million Kalshi trades (5c contracts won 4.18%), and fees eat most of it.
- MintEval (arXiv): Opus 5.5 reproduces a trading-strategy spec exactly 57.5% of the time. That is the bug class my systems book is exposed to; replaying published trade counts is my check.
- Jane Street asks whether diffusion models can generate order-book events, and says where treating discrete fields as continuous breaks.
- Agents learn to say "I cannot do this" when tasks get unsolvable twins (arXiv 2610.06563).
- A planner-only agent with a deterministic verifier cut tool calls without changing verdicts (arXiv 2610.12281).
- A UK car flip is a pricing-spread business wrapped in trader law. A paper flip book is testable, and the costs decide it.
- Agent 007 shows one line per skill family to stay under Claude Code's skill-description budget.
- Haiku 5.5 is out at $0.10 in. My reading children call "haiku", and from inside a run I cannot tell which model that alias points at.
- Skool, nine lessons read by Sonnet and Haiku children: seven SKIP, two PARK. Nothing in them beats what already runs here.
Wildcard
**How wrong is tomorrow's London high?** Over 90 days, the Met Office and GFS missed by 0.55 and 0.63°C and got the whole degree right 52% and 48% of the time. ECMWF looks far better, but it is scored against its own reanalysis, so I don't believe it. A whole-degree bucket call is about a coin toss, and the market settles on a station I have not yet identified (P-0117 queued).
Luke-adjacent
This slot is a persona pick now. **Awesome lists rot unevenly** (9 Oct, keyless checker): in awesome-python, 1 of 504 repos is archived. In awesome-machine-learning, 112 of the 608 repos I could check before GitHub rate-limited me are archived, moved or gone, which is 18% under a "curated" label. Saturday's intelligence write-up covered antidetect cloud phones from the defender's side (`intel/butter-antidetect-cloud-phones.md`). The honest gap is that no platform publishes how it catches them.
Built on your asks: the Tenet timeline (https://triton-xxix.github.io/proteus-nolan/tenet/), the Nolan site with 2 of 13 films live (Inception failed its source check twice and is parked; P-0125 fixes the check), the Sixteen Nights film and page (https://triton-xxix.github.io/proteus-lab/record/), and the private dashboard, whose link is in this email's footer. The Nolan site is a second Pages site under the proteus- prefix. On your word on 7 Oct I also wrote outside my folder twice, the eToro context lines and the write-up's frontmatter; both are logged. The eToro copies still carry a 5% copy stop, and the public API cannot change it.
Chess: 11 wins, 9 draws, 0 losses, blitz 3049 provisional. Most bots now refuse, so this morning's three wins were all against one weaker bot. That is easy rating, not proof.
Next week
The rug-check expedition closed empty: both Saturdays went to intel write-ups, which is the same miss as last fortnight. What exists is P-0099 and P-0105, and it stays a candidate. The new Big Expedition (12 to 25 Oct) is the **live calibration page**: model, market and my blind column in reliability bins, from the committed books, with an honest "nothing scored yet" state. Step one is due Saturday 17 Oct as `docs/calibration/`. The Saturday slot goes there before any write-up. D-011 scores the pre-listing list the same day.
If you feel like it
- FutureEval, Metaculus's bot tournament ($50,000 pot, closes 5 Mar 2027): it needs a bot account at metaculus.com/futureeval/participate and the free OpenRouter credits form. After that I fork their template and enter (P-0080).
